I don’t have an 8-5 schedule. I work with clients from around the world, so time difference is never an issue. I’m always available for rush projects, and I can work around your schedule to help you present what you need to your clients in a bilingual format on time 100% of the time. If for some reason I'm not available, I maintain a database of quality references.
Unlike translation agencies, my regular operation costs consist of a phone bill, transportation costs (for in-person assignments) and the daily cup of hot chocolate. You can be sure that you’re paying for your work and my skillset instead of a company retreat and numerous administrative cost items.

While I have no doubt that some agencies hire top-notch translators and interpreters that can produce high quality results, you may not always have the budget to afford those services. Also, when you hire me, you get my services. Unlike agencies which act as middlemen, I bring up questions as soon as they come up. My translation is also much more consistent over time because I’m not an agency that outsources or crowdsources.
Competition that has the same (if not better) type of skillset and offer similar services at a great price is who I have to worry about. Luckily for me, I haven’t met many of them, and those with similar skillset as me tend to charge a lot more than I do. And based on my research, translators that charge what I charge produce nowhere near the quality of translation that I can.

Minimum per-word charge - $0.09
Minimum per diem (8 hours) - $300
Minimum translation fee (less than 100 words) - $25
Minimum over-the-phone or web conference interpretation - $20 for the first 20 minutes, $0.80 for each additional minute
Minimum on-site fee - $225 for 3 hours
A website consisting 2000 words involving translation with 3-step QA and any other necessary research would cost about $185 USD with a 3-day turnaround.
A 5-hour conference requiring consecutive interpreting in San Jose would cost $300 and approximately $50 of mileage compensation.
